365 Things To Do In Costa Mesa – Kona Tanning – Day 240

Welcome to Kona Tanning!

Are you looking to get an amazing tan without spending time in the sun? I found it! (Look like a Victoria’s Secret model! Seriously - this is the secret!)

Kona Tanning recently had their grand opening shindig and it was flawless. Note: you can’t go wrong when you plan party with free booze, a crowd of party people in white hats, a choreographed hip hop dance mix and a fashion show. Seriously, welcome to Costa Mesa!

Kona Tanning Opening Party

The Kona Tanning crew does a fab job. I have never gone in for a spray tan (heck I’ve never even been on a tanning bed-I prefer the sun) but I recently had a chance to try a spray tan and I couldn’t be happier. After months of not hitting the beach and turning back into my natural ghost complexion, the spray tan revitalized my skin. It took less than a half hour to be professionally spray tanned by a makeup artist who really took her time to make sure everything looked great. EVERYONE has been complimenting me on it, so I am in turn complimenting Kona Tanning on their service and product!

Special Alert!

This week you can get 20% off and get spray tanned for just $52! Offer good til March 19, 2011.

Thanks to Katie Quinn for keeping me in the loop on this new Costa Mesa venue!

365 Things To Do In Costa Mesa – Wahoo! – Day 239

Wahoo! Wahoo’s Fish Tacos!

I’ve been excisted to write about Wahoo’s for awhile. Not only is the food fun, affordable, quick and easy, but one of the owners, Wing Lam, is an Estancia grad (Class of ’79). Now Wing runs over 50 Wahoo’s locations nationwide. Pretty cool, right?

The restaurant dishes up all sorts of burritos, bowls, platters, and more.

What’s your fave dish?

flier

Wahoo’s is great about supporting the community. In fact on Sunday, March 13, 2011 they are donating 20% of all sales back to the Orange County Skateboarding League (with the flier below). We have a lot of skaters here in Costa Mesa who will be pretty happy about the funds brought in by this special.

365 Things To Do In Costa Mesa – Swap Meet Fun – Day 238

Swap Meet = Time for Deals $$$

No, I’m not talking about the OC Swap Meet, although that’s certainly an option today as well. Today, one of the most spirited elementary schools I know is holding a Swap Meet  fundraiser. Head over to the Sonora Elementary School parking lot between 8am-2pm for deals on treasures (hey, you never know!), food, raffles, music, and just a lot of fun! Leave feeling good about not only the deals you found but the school you’re supporting.

What’s your best garage sale find?

Bundt Cakes – All Good!

Welcome to Nothing Bundt Cakes, a new shop in Eastside Costa Mesa. This new bakery is bringing some sweet stuff to E 17th Street. Here’s why I think bundt cakes are good – besides the obvious taste reasons.

On Friday, March 11, 2011 Nothing Bundt Cakes is donating 20% of all their proceeds to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC).  This is an all day event from 9am-6pm so get a bundt cake for a morning treat, a 3pm sugar rush, or dessert! Plus from 4-6pm there will even be face painting for the kids.

2. On Saturday, March 12, 2011 the first 50 customers who buy a bundt cake will receive one free Bundtlet per month for a year!

Make sure to check out the last blog we posted about the day Nothing Bundt Cakes opened in Costa Mesa.

365 Things To Do In Costa Mesa – Go Green at Cisco Home With Free Food & Drinks – Day 236

Go Green Costa Mesa!

Ecofriendly is the way to be and Costa Mesa has plenty of people and businesses that support the cause. Yesterday’s post was about the brand Generic Youth, which is all for sustainable clothing products. Well guess what? The store Cisco Home is all for sustainable living. Lots of people are incorporating sustainable elements into their homes and it’s actually something that lots of homebuyers appreciate (I would know since I work in real  estate - the way of the future).

Cisco Home series

Say hello to the Cisco Home series, brought to you by Cisco Home, The Camp and eccoficiency.org. On Friday, March 11, 2011 visitors will be treated to a lecture called Living With A Positive Footprint. It’s a great, affordable opportunity to learn something useful, eat, drink, and listen to a DJ. with just a $5 donation suggested at the door this is the night out with a purpose. Who doesn’t want to be part of something bigger than themselves? That’s the concept behind sustainable living. Pave the way to a better future for our planet.

Will you check it out for free drinks and appetizers?

365 Things To Do In Costa Mesa – Burger Wednesday – Day 235

Generic Youth Hosts Burger Wednesday

Costa Mesa has a lot of funk. A clothing shop that celebrates the alternative lifestyle is Generic Youth. It’s not about labels (even though it has a cool sihouette logo). The shop really strives to cater to local communities and one of the things it’s known for is that the clothing is ecologically friendly. Go green! Almost all of the clothes are made on-site… That’s amazing!

Burger Wednesday!

On Wednesday’s the shop offers up a Burger Wednesday from 11-1pm. In exchange for $5 or a used beach towel (seriously!) you can get a burger lunch. Guess what they do with the towels? They repurpose them into hoodies! Sounds perfect for the beach – a hoodie made out of comfy beach towel material!

Would you rather pay $5 or bring a used towel to get a burger?

365 Things To Do In Costa Mesa – Doria’s Haus of Pizza – Day 234

Mangia, mangia!

Mama mia, papa pia… Want a taste of Italy? Why not visit Doria’s Haus of Pizza? This local restaurant is proud to be celebrating 30 years of service in Costa Mesa! (Aw, 30 years – I’ll be celebrating my 30th anniversary of life this year too – sentimental!) Doria’s has been voted Orange County’s #1 Hole in the Wall Restaurant – fun!

Daily Specials

Who doesn’t love deals? Doria’s offers a special dish every day (except Friday). Here’s the lineup:

*Tip – you’ll save a little dough (see my pun! Yes, pizza dough) if you dine in.

Monday: Spaghetti

Tuesday: Lasagna

Wednesday: Panzerotti

Thursday: Manicotti

Saturday: Canelloni

Sunday: Rigatoni

(All of these come with soup or salad and garlic bread – except the panzerotti)

Which is your fave dish?

Did you know…? The Haus of Pizza was originally located in Long Beach. It opened there in 1974 and was forced to move in 1981. They claim the move was a wonderful thing – they LOVE their new clientele in the Costa Mesa area. Yay!
